When Doug Jones gave his victory speech after winning one of the Alabama Senate Seats on Tuesday, he called for the reauthorization of the Children's Health Insurance Program.
Instead of heeding this call from him and many others across the country, Republicans have put tax cuts largely for the one percent and cooperations ahead of poor children's health and care.
What kind of country is it where the majority of its public servants put the interests of the affluent over its most vulnerable?
It would be interesting to see if the beneficiaries of the tax cut going through Congress would agree that they should get their cuts first before solving the issues of children's health and poverty. Most, who do not need the cuts anyway, would probably support helping the needy children of our nation. What is wrong with Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and the minority President (whose administration would not grant an extension to the groundswell that is Obamacare enrollments) that they can not see that.
Progressives and Democrats need to scream about this social injustice until it hurts. What else are they supposed to fight for if it is not our most vulnerable.
