Having been one of the many who saw The Last Jedi over the weekend, it was striking to see obvious references to the inequality between the one percent and everyone else in this country. One only has to see the behavior of the filthy rich in the scenes on the gambling planer and the very end with the small indentured servant children in the stables wearing resistance rings (like out of World War Two and a tribute to movies like Casablanca) to see the subtle messages the writer/director Rian Johnson appeared to be conveying. It is kind of reminiscent of Revenge of the Sith when Bush supporters accused George Lucas of broadcasting an Anti Bush bias with the newly christened Darth Vader saying "If you're not with me, you're my enemy). This is not the first time science fiction or fantasy has been a vehicle for moral parables or social commentary. The best Twilight Zones and Star Treks are stellar examples of this. The Last Jedi will not be the last to strike a chord on our moral conscience. Thank God.
