Idea of the Week: Public Financing of Campaigns
In light of the other historical event of this evening, the likely Senate passage of the Republican Tax Plan to appease their donors, it is an opportune time to call for public financing of campaigns and a campaign finance reform amendment that neuters the lobbyist cliques and takes out the uneven influence of the one percent plutocracy that the Republican Party has been catering to. We can not have a vibrant Democracy, let alone a Republic if we maintain the campaign finance system we have in place today.
