Democrats and Progressives need to come together.

Democrats and Progressives are going to "piss" this great opportunity at bringing the country to the progressive way of moving the country forward if they do not stop this public bickering on who will lead the House and what type of program they will advance with Congress reconvenes with a Democratic House in January.

As previous posts have relayed, a compromise that will benefit the party and movement are there if all sides have the courage and maturity to embrace it. This includes:

1) Nancy Pelosi, with her vast leadership experience, should become the speaker for this term with Hoyer and Clyburn taking background roles as mentors to a new generation of Democratic leaders in their 40's and 50's. There are many Democrats that are ready to carry that mantle although the ones who were most vocal about displacing Pelosi should not be rewarded for their public stances. Pelosi, nearing eighty along with Hoyer and Clyburn need to realize that the torch needs to be passed to the new guard.

2) Adopting a progressive platform that pushes for health care for all, free college for all, getting rid of dark money, and going green in our energy development and infrastructure but it needs to be done gradually and within existing models. For example, increased universal health care can be achieved by expanding eligibility to access Medicaid or reduce the minimum age enrollment to Medicare to 55. Another example is to have free college phased in first at the community college level before extending to public four and six-year universities.

This is not rocket science and Progressives can achieve all they want if they do not lose sight of the ultimate goals while compromising on the method to get there.
