Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego Celebrates the One Year Anniversary of the Passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

 It has been one year since the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

In that time, the county and the state of Arizona have started to achieve tremendous benefits that will help make the lives of all Americans better.

For example, according to a Biden/Harris Administration released fact sheet, the country has seen:

• Launched 2,800 bridge repair and replacement projects across the country.
• Awarded funds for over 5,000 new clean transit and school buses.
• Major investments in modernizing airports and ports of entry.
• The approval of electric vehicle infrastructure deployment plans for all 50 states.
• Funding for water delivery repair and modernization infrastructure.
• Approved projects to help infrastructure in tribal lands.
• Appropriations to combat drought and climate change.
• Monies to provide mine, abandoned oil well, and brownfield clean up.
• Funding to prevent wildfires and protect wildfires.
• Investments in clean energy from energy-efficient home technology, longer serving batteries, clean hydrogen initiatives, and upgrading the power grid.
• Expanding internet access across rural and impoverished portions of  America.

Specifically in Arizona, the Grand Canyon State has seen from the Infrastructure Law:

• $2.1 billion for roads and bridges.
• 326,000 households have signed up for internet connectivity per the Infrastructure Law.
• $234 million for clean water infrastructure and repair.
• About $40 million combined to fund clean energy school buses and public transit infrastructure.
• $27.6 million to build a network of electric vehicle chargers around Arizona.
• $47 million for weatherization.
• $84 million for airport infrastructure.
• $26.2 million for pollution cleanup including sealing up abandoned mines.

Overall, as of October 25, 2022, Arizona has received $3.2 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Funding.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, one of Arizona's leaders in Green Sustainability and developing the fifth-largest city in the country's influence in clean energy, electric vehicles, biosciences, and computer technology, saluted the first-year anniversary of the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, posting on social media:

"Today is the one-year anniversary of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as BIL – a federal law that paved the way for big investments in our country's critical infrastructure. #PHX has moved fast to ensure we get the maximum benefit from these funds.

Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) is one project Phoenix has announced (see photo rendering). This is a pedestrian/bike bridge across the Rio Salado River that will join two historically separate communities and make it easier to get to #DTPHX.

Sky Harbor is also getting in on the funds! I’m very excited about the 2,000 foot cross-field taxiway now in the design process. This will create safer operations at our airport, and make it easier for flights to arrive and depart on time.

 

Additionally, Phoenix is competing for grants for buses, bridge repairs, and Transit Oriented Development to improve our transit corridors. I am proud of the work we have done, and we will keep it going!"
