When MAGA Enabling Speaker Kevin McCarthy could not get the rule to proceed to a vote on increasing the National Debt Limit with only Republican votes, House Democrats led by, let us call him Speaker when the Pressure is On, Hakeem Jeffries delivered the key votes to get the measure passed.
Democrats also delivered most of the votes on the measure to raise the debt limit.
Fast forward to today, September 30, 2023, Mr. McCarthy, publicly at wit's end with his MAGA-Trump-Putin loving wing, put forth a 45 Day Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government open without the eight to thirty percent across-the-board cuts in discretionary spending the bulk of his conference (which welched on the spending limits agreed to in the debt ceiling deal) wanted and failed to pass on a party-line vote.
While this measure included vital disaster relief funding for states ravaged by flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes, the legislation, in a bid to appease the Putin Wing of the Republican Party, did drop the aid to Ukraine.
After about an hour of Democratic Leader Jeffries speaking on the House Floor to give members of his conference time to read the legislation, the 45-Day CR passed after a 335 to 91 vote...
...with mostly Democratic votes. 209 Democrats approved the measure. Only 126 Republicans followed their example. 90 Republicans voted against this.
MAGA Twerp Matt Gaetz has threatened to call for a motion to have McCarthy vacate the Speaker's chair.
Speaker, when the Pressure is On, Jeffries will probably be there to the rescue again if that occurs and when the time comes to vote on the next measures (temporary or permanent) to fund the United States Government because the Speaker (in name only apparently) can not do it without him.
