There is a scene from the 1964 movie Fall of the Roman Empire that called out to me yesterday after hearing American Duce Wannabe Donald Trump's proposition to the American People during his address at the Midterm Convention in Dallas.
In the movie (go to 2:26:34), Commodus, played by Christopher Plummer, sees his power is threatened by his main rival, Livius (played by Stephen Boyd), and calls on his advisors to strip gold from monuments and buildings to buy support and remain in control of the Roman Empire.
Yesterday, in a scene similar to the movie with Plummer, Trump told the American People that he would give each American adult $5,000 if they vote the Republicans back into power this November.
In legal circles, this would constitute a bribe.

To all those Americans who mistakenly thought Mr. Trump, despite his first term record, his criminal convictions, his two impeachments, and his business experience of bankruptcies (including a casino) and stiffing vendors, would honor his pledge to bring prices down on day one, end the war in Ukraine on day one, and no longer get the nation in forever wars, do not fall for another lie from the Liar in Chief.
Remember this is the same person who said:
- Mexico would pay for the wall. Where is the check?
- He had a better, less expensive health care plan. Where is it?
- He would pay down the national debt. The nation just hit the $40 trillion mark.
- He would only deport violent criminal immigrants. Tell that to the children being taken and detained.
- Iran is about to give up.
- Prices are going down despite most evidence to the contrary.
This is not the first time Trump has promised payments to the American People.
As CNN has reported, Trump has promised dividend, rebate checks from DOGE cuts (which never materialized), tariff rebates (refunds went to the corporations but not to the American People), and stipends to compensate for cuts to Obamacare/Affordable Care Act subsidies (the cuts are coming October 1, but the stipends are not).
Apparently, people in Congress and his Administration, blindsided by his remarks, are scrambling to figure out what to do about Trump's latest pledge.
Do not believe Trump.
Do not trust him.
Christ's second coming will occur before those $5,000 checks are cut.
So wise up, do not believe Trump's lies anymore, and vote his supporters out of Congress, state legislative seats, and Governors mansions this November.
Then, the tide will start to turn for the American People.
It will be a long road with lots of work to do and pitfalls ahead, but at least the American People and the country will be moving in the right direction again.
