There was a dream called Israel. It was meant to be inclusive, a safe beacon for Jews from the oppression of other nations, democratic, and an exemplar of social justice. Benjamin Netanyahu betrays that dream when he cozies up to authoritarian thugs and populist charlatans. It will not benefit Israel in the long run and it will not benefit other leaders and public servants in nations that think this rightward shift is the "ticket" to prosperity and stability. Netanyahu's forerunners and corporate elites in this country were wrong when they took the same attitude in striking accommodations with Mussolini in the 1920s and '30s. They are wrong again.
