At the first ever cabinet meeting of the Musk/Trump/Vance Administration, both Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
While Mr. Trump was periodically dozing off at his mostly white people-attended cabinet meeting only five weeks into the new Administration, Elon Musk was conducting the cabinet meeting and admitting that his DOGE team had erred in gutting the Ebola team at USAID. He also claimed he fixed it.
If only that were true.
Posting on social media, Jeremy Konyndyk, who helped lead the United States' response to the Ebola Outbreak in 2014, said:
In reporting from NPR, Dr. Craig Spencer said, "I disagree fully, completely, wholly, that they recognized the mistake and put it back."
Spencer also said that the communications blackout on health organizations like the Center for Disease Control is not helping, commenting that staffers there "aren't allowed to go to meetings with the World Health Organization, something they would have done in every single outbreak of Ebola — or other viral hemorrhagic fever disease – to date. From top to bottom, none of the things that they have canceled have been put back in place."
In reporting from the Washington Post, former Biden/Harris USAID official Nidhi Bouri said, “There have been no efforts to ‘turn on’ anything in prevention” of Ebola and other diseases."
Feel safe and secure yet.
Not to be outdone, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. demonstrated again how unqualified he is to be in that position, responding, when asked about the current measles outbreak in Texas that has resulted in the first child death of that disease in a decade that "Incidentally, there have been four measles outbreaks this year in this country. Last year, there were 16, so it's not unusual. We have measles outbreaks every year."
According to Newsweek fact checking, these measles outbreaks, thanks in part to a drop in people obtaining measles vaccinations, are increasing compared to recent years.
The number of people not getting vaccinated is also increasing, and there is a growing sentiment in states like Arizona among uninformed science denying legislators to advance anti-vaccination measures.
That potentially creates a health care crisis scenario as diseases once relegated to rarities (Measles in this country had actually disappeared in 2000) are making a comeback thanks in part to the war on science campaign being conducted by incompetents and science/vaccine deniers like Musk, Kennedy Jr., and Trump who dozed off at yesterday's mostly white attended meeting.
Note the difference with Joe Biden and his cabinet that looked like America.
Be afraid.
