In the Trump Zone, no Democrats allowed, we are not Racists, and you have to sign a Waiver to Get In

The last 24 hours have shown (like Americans really need more examples) of the Orwellian hypocrisy of the Trump Administration.

First, at an event in Dallas to promote healing race relations and law enforcement, the Trump team failed to invite three of the top law enforcement officials in Dallas County.

According to reporting from Teresa Woodward, "Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall, Dallas Co. Sheriff Marian Brown and Dallas Co. DA John Creuzot were not invited to the roundtable."

Two of the excluded (Brown and Creuzot) are Democrats.

Excluding people, because of the political party, they belong to is no way to bring the country together. But it should not be surprising with Mr. Trump.

When was the last time Speaker Nancy Pelosi has had a conversation with him?

When was the last time Democrats were invited to the White House to participate in a bipartisan event or signing ceremony?

The second exhibit of Trump Zone Orwellian hypocrisy is the panel discussion itself where Trump and Attorney General Barr did not mention George Floyd by name, the President saying dominate the streets means compassion, and people should "... have to work together to confront bigotry and prejudice wherever they appear, but will make no progress and heal no wounds by falsely labeling tens of millions of decent Americans as racist or bigots."

This coming from the person who accused judges of being partial towards him because of their ethnicity, wants to build a wall on the southern border and not the one with Canada, said there were fine people of both sides during Charlottesville and teargassed peaceful protestors so he could stage a photo op with an upside-down Bible.

Finally, the Trump campaign has announced their first rally since the intensification of the COVID 19 crisis.

In the ultimate Trump Zone hypocrisy, people who want to attend the rally have to sign a waiver that absolves the Reelection campaign of any responsibility if someone contracts the Coronavirus while attending the event.

If everything is so wonderful in the Trump Zone, why should people have to sign a waiver to attend a rally? Why should they worry about getting sick when their Chief Executive Demagigue has done everything right and is "transitioning us back to greatness." (GAG, try not to heave).

It will be interesting to see how many people fail Mother Natures IQ Test and sign the waiver to attend the rally.

The campaign should not be holding the event if they think there is a possibility people could get sick. They should do the responsible thing and cancel the rally.

It is time for the people who live in the Trump Zone to get their heads out of the sand and smell the air that is reality.

The Lincoln Project's latest ad "Crowds;" "Remember in November"

The Lincoln Project has unveiled a new ad titled Crowds.

The ad begins with Mr. Trump falsely claiming (with the Lincoln Group supplying real-time pictures) to the staff at the Central Intelligence Agency the day after his 2017 inauguration that the crowd that attended his swearing-in looked like "a million..a million and a half people."

The narrator in the ad then states, with pictures of the protests across the country (in cities like New York, Denver, Portland, Washington D.C., and San Diego) over the last two weeks:

"It took almost four years for Trump to get the crowds he wanted. After years of Donald Trump's...discord, America is coming together."

The narrator then concludes:
"This year we have a choice to make: America or Trump. Imagine how big the crowds will be when he is gone. A new day begins on November 3."

The release of this video nicely coincides with the publication of EJ Montini's lastest column in AZ Central titled "1, 2, 3, 4, THIS is what you protest for ... 1, 2, 3, 4, THIS is what you protest for," where the noted writer commented that all the dreams and hopes the Phoenix protestors have for forward change will come to nothing if they do not follow the "dictates" of one of the chants they uttered while they marched.

The Polls look good for Joe Biden and Mark Kelly; Do not get Cocky

Most Democratic operatives including those on the Joe Biden and Mark Kelly campaigns are probably very happy with recent polls that have been released in the last week.

These polls (please click on the Real Clear Politics June 8, 2020 compilation here) show the former Vice President with a commanding lead over the 2016 Popular Vote Loser.

This has been capped off by a CNN poll that shows Mr. Biden leading the 2016 KKK endorsed candidate by a 14 point margin.

Similar polls (click here) show Captain Mark Kelly with similar momentum in his Senate Race against Senator Martha McSally.

Even a Fox News Poll has Kelly up 13 over the Arizona Republican.

Trump is dragging everyone down

The CNN poll shows Mr. Trump with a 38 percent approval rating.

This result stems from his poor handling of the Coronavirus and the protestors following the police murder of George Floyd.

Most people apparently did not approve of the Stable Genius clearing peaceful protestors with tear gas so he could stage a photo op with an upside-down Bible.

To put the President of Betrayal's current approval numbers in historical perspective, Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush had approval ratings in this area at the same time five months before the 1980 and 1992 elections.

Everyone knows how those elections worked out for them.

Biden's numbers are better at this time than Hillary Clintons in 2016 and remember she did win the popular vote by almost three million votes.

According to CNN and Newsweek, Biden is leading on virtually every issue except the economy (HOW.)

Martha McSally, in order to keep the Republican base in line, has tethered herself to Donald Trump. That may not be a winning strategy with Independents or Republicans that belong to groups like the Lincoln Project (who have already run an ad against her. Please see below.)

There is a growing fear among Republicans that Trump will cost them the White House and the Senate.

Do not get Cocky

While Democrats obviously prefer the position they are in now five months before the election than the Republicans probably do, history shows that people still need to work hard to get the voters out on November 3, 2020.

There is still time for Republicans to turn their fortunes around.

McSally could, as Robert Robb mentioned in a recent column, strive to reinvent herself (doubtful but possible.)

Bidens lead could evaporate. It has happened before.

Just ask President Thomas Dewey or President Michael Dukakis or President Hillary Clinton.

All three of these candidates were heavily favored to become President after their parties convention until a combination of candidate missteps and a campaign complacency-cockiness set in that allowed their opponents (Presidents Harry Truman, George H.W. Bush, and Donald Trump) to come back and achieve victory.

Democrats, Independents, and Anti Trump supporters should realize that this is a fight for every vote and nothing can be taken for granted.

Just ask Michael Dukakis if he has hindsight about his reaction to the Willie Horton ad.

Ask Hillary Clinton if she now thinks she should have spent more personal time in Pennsylvania, Michigan, or Wisconsin?

Ask Barack Obama if he should have made the Russian Interference in the 2016 campaign despite Mitch McConnell's threats.

The Trump team, with their only talent for lies and deceit, will stop at nothing to tear down Joe Biden. Donald Trump has already been impeached for attempting to do just that and he and his cultist enablers will not stop.

People need to stay vigilant and not grow complacent. Despite Hillary Clinton's perceived shortcomings as a candidate (although hindsight shows that the majority who voted for her were right,) people who stayed home either because they thought she was going to win anyway or they did not like her need to turn out this time along with everyone else that wants to fight for the soul and direction of the country.

Colin Powell and probably Cindy McCain will be in the Biden Camp in 2020

Colin Powell, once Ronald Reagan's National Security Advisor, George H.W. Bush's (and Bill Clinton's) the Joint Chiefs Chairman of the United States Military, George W. Bush's first Secretary of State, and once thought of as a Republican Presidential candidate (in 1996,) has not been fond of his Republican Party leadership for a while.

It started in 2008 (maybe earlier after the incompetence in the administering of the Iraq War, especially after his controversial 2003 presentation to the United Nations justifying the use of force) when he saw the extremist wing of the Party gaining traction in the party with the Vice Presidential nomination of Sarah Palin by John McCain. This fringe element, crystallized by an elderly lady by telling the late Republican Senator that she did not trust Obama because he was an Arab (Muslim.) Please see the video below:

To his lasting credit, McCain did not allow that to fester in the audience, saying Obama was not an Arab and was a decent human being who he just had differences on the issues with.

Powell credited McCain as well but also found a little fault with him for not telling the woman and others who shared her views that it should not matter if Obama was a Muslim or not. This is the United States. Any citizen over 35 can become President.

Powell, who said he was troubled by the racism that was penetrating his party, would vote for Obama again in 2012 and Hillary Clinton in 2016 when the KKK Endorsed Candidate, Donald Trump, became the nominee.

In 2020, Powell announced he would support Joe Biden's Presidential Candidacy.

He made that announcement on CNN on Jake Tapper's State of the Union, saying:

"I'm very close to Joe Biden on a social matter and on a political matter. I worked with him for 35, 40 years, and he is now the candidate and I will be voting for him."

On Donald Trump, General Powell said:

"We have a Constitution. And we have to follow that Constitution. And the President has drifted away from it” and he “lies all the time.”

Powell is not the only major Republican who feels their party has left them and has given hints of supporting Joe Biden.

Cindy McCain, the widow of the late Senator, apparently will be as well according to reporting from Jonathan Martin of the New York Times.

With Trump’s Republican Predecessor George W, Bush and Mitt Romney revealing they will not be voting for the current White House occupant and the Democratic Presidential Nominee (who hit the magical delegate count for the nomination this last week) poll numbers, unlike Hillary Clinton in 2016, reaching 50 percent support in some recent samplings, Team Biden has had a good week.

They and the people need to remember November 3 is still five months away.

The Lincoln Project Shows Trump is no Mattis or Eisenhower or Lincoln

With the 76th anniversary of D Day this weekend, the Lincoln Project released a series of video ads designed to show that Donald Trump is no match for the bravery of General James Mattis, the responsibility of Dwight Eisenhower, and the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln.

The first ad, titled "Mattis", first compares General and former Defense Secretary  Mattis's bravery and leadership to Trumps, pointing to the General's service in the military, whereas Mr. Trump claimed a deferral due to bone spurs, and his ability to face adversity while the 2016 Popular Vote Loser hid in a White House Bunker.

It then points out that General Mattis, in quotes he gave to the Atlantic, defends the Constitution, the rights of people to protest, and condemns Mr. Trump's policy of divisiveness and using the Bible as a prop.

The ad concludes with the question: "Who do you trust: the coward or the commander?"

The second video, appropriately titled "Leadership", shows how General Eisenhower prepared to take responsibility for the failure of D-Day should the landings on Normandy have not gone well.

The narrator in the ad points out that:

"Great leaders prepare for every eventuality. They hope for the best but they prepare for the worst."

The video then shifts from Eisenhower prepared to take all the blame for a potential D-Day landing to Mr. Trump not taking any responsibility for the reaction to the pandemic or personnel moves.

The narrator then asks: "Isn't it time America turns to a different kind of leadership."

The final video, with alternating scenes of a closeup of the Lincoln Memorial and the protests, titled "Steps," invokes the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln who is credited with saying:

"Before entering upon so grave a matter as the destruction of our national fabric with all its benefits, its memories, and its hopes, would it not be wise to ascertain precisely why we do it. Will, you risk the commission of so fearful a mistake"

The ad concludes with the words "November is Coming."

This final ad, utilizing the words of Lincoln, chastise Mr. Trump for his reckless divisive acts during the protests in the aftermath of the murder by police of George Floyd.

Hopefully, the American People will realize that Donald Trump is no Mattis, Eisenhower, or Lincoln.
