Call to Action courtesy of Desert Progressives

Desert Progressives Indivisible August 6, 2017

THE NO GOOD, VERY BAD WEEK FOR THE PRESIDENT...
Michael Thomsky (of the Daily Beast) said it well..."The Boy Scout Speech, the leaked phone call transcripts, the huge grand jury news, the Stephen Miller press briefing, and the news that trump Senior wrote Junior's lying statement on the Russia meeting (remember that one? That was just Tuesday, but it already feels about eight scandals ago). "

Yes, last week was certainly a thriller.  The President still has no major legislation passed, McCain voted NO, Flake voted YES and has an 18% approval rating. He is not getting good press.  Wahoo!  Jeff Sessions and the NRA are threatening the free press with extremist ideas and ads.  We have work to do people!

A MESSAGE FROM  SAVE OUR SCHOOLS
"SOS Education Warriors!  We will declare victory next Tuesday when SOS delivers a school bus full of petitions to the Capitol. It's a victory for education, as well as for democracy.
On the official petition return deadline of August 1, we received almost 10,000 signatures in ONE DAY."

Hey, Debbie Lesko...WE did it!  To everyone who helped, give yourself a well deserved BRAVO and then get busy with verifying all those petitions! Scroll down to see the SOS ACTION. Our job is not done.

We moved mountains by defeating the Repeal of ACA (skinny or not), however, we are STILL concerned with Healthcare and will need to continue the fight.

ACTION
Send a letter
to Gov. Ducey regarding his quietly selling out Medicaid in Arizona. A letter to the editor would be a good idea too.
“At least six states with GOP governors— Arkansas, Kentucky, Arizona, Maine,
Wisconsin and Indiana — have already drafted plans meant to introduce new rules people would have to meet to be eligible for Medicaid, which provides healthcare to children, low-income Americans and those with certain disabilities.”

NATIONAL

IMMIGRATION ACTION

The RAISE Act attacks American ideals and reflects white nationalist agenda.
The SPLC says that The RAISE Act represents a stealth attack on our immigration system that would begin to unravel the reforms of 52 years ago when Congress discarded a racist quota system that discriminated against people who weren’t white and northern European.
Its provisions reflect the shameful agenda of nativists and white nationalists who fear the growing diversity of our country. We’re not surprised that this bill has gained the support of President Trump, who has welcomed allies of the white nationalist movement into his administration, issued a Muslim ban, and called Mexican immigrants rapists and killers.

It appears Senators McCain and Flake are not currently in favor of this, so it's an opportunity to let them know how we feel about it and thank them for expressing non-support. Encourage them to continue to say no to this agenda.

VOX ARTICLE ON THE RAISE ACTThe immigration bill Trump is behind is awful and unAmerican.

HEALTHCARE

Though we defeated the SKinny Repeal last week (Yay us!), there is no doubt the Healthcare issue will continue. For now, we can remind our MOC's thru CALLS, LETTERS AND, since it's recess time, OFFICE VISITS.
Since Senator Flake voted FOR the Skinny Repeal, he needs to hear that his vote DID NOT reflect our values and we are watching what he will do next.
Sen. McCain, of course we know, voted NO. If you haven't thanked him, this is a good time to do so. Both of them could be reminded that Medicare should not be cut and we expect bipartisan cooperation.

Women save Healthcare, McCain gets credit

Let’s give credit to Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and, of course, MAZIE HIRONO of Hawaii who was equally as brave as Sen McCain and maybe even convinced him to vote NO in her conversation with him. Read about her here.
