This weeks Idea of the Week is a continuation of past posts suggesting ideas on reforming and redesigning public education. Some of these, like the article on West Virginia's Career Pathways Program, has been touched on in previous posts. High Schools, in their graduation requirements, should mandate pursuing courses that include early college, career apprenticeships, and national service in their junior and senior years. Other article links cited below consider the redesigning of the Elementary School Classroom into a more inquiry and higher Blooms Taxonomy atmosphere which will channel the children's inquiry and critical thinking skills at an earlier age. Furthermore, there are ideas on mentoring that can be useful in both inside and outside the classroom, especially those with large class sizes. Finally. we should not lose sight that all children will benefit from a well rounded liberal arts education that includes a blend of the humanities and sciences. These and other ideas are essential to paving the way for modernizing our schools.
