Pulling a page out of the Nixon Playbook

When Richard Nixon became President in 1969, he and his National Security Advisor (later Secretary of State) Henry Kissinger played a bad cop/good cop skit for the world's leaders with Nixon being the trigger happy wacko and Kissinger playing the cool headed diplomat. Through this partnership, Detente emerged with the communist block.

Let us hope that President Trump is finally looking to historical examples in how he is handling the situation with North Korea with his "fire and fury" comments while his National Security Team handles the delicate diplomatic work with the North Koreans and Chinese. There is a diplomatic solution to be had here ranging from buying them off to actually formalizing the end of the Korean War through a United Nations sponsored peace treaty that addresses everyone's concerns. It is also an opportunity for this Administration after foolishly pulling out of the Trans Pacific Partnership to do a reset in this region which is especially important for our trade and security (especially given the inroads I.S.I.L. is making in countries like the Philippines).

Let us hope cooler heads prevail here.
