There are some interesting news and ideas in the realm of education.
1) The latest Ken Burn historical documentary on the Vietnam War that premiered this evening is a worthwhile program to watch.
2) The Center for American Progress has released a report with the common sense recommendation that our teachers should represent a cross-section of all our demographic groups.
3) Unfortunately for our nation, our students have demonstrated a continual lack of understanding of our government, its historical origins, and how it runs. Along with the other core subjects, our educators, students, and their parents have to do a better job at making sure our students reap the benefits of a well-rounded education.
4) Students and faculty at Universities need to realize that part of getting a well-rounded education is to allow public figures that represent contrasting different views on public policy and society the respect and courtesy of sharing their views at university forums where students can gain exposure to differing points of views and make informed decisions. To deny these invitations is to make us guilty of the same intolerance and lack of understanding we accuse these figures of having. Progressives should be more magnanimous, smarter, and wiser.
