Those were the days when George W. Bush was President.

Well, today offered mixed news for the United States and our people.

First, the Trump Administration proposed an immigration plan which honestly merits discussion among all parties. It does provide for a pathway to citizenship, the wall on the Southern Border, and several other immigration reforms. While the devil is in the details (and as an update, the details on the non headline issues have found little favor with legal immigration activists), this may stimulate additional thought towards a plan that each side gives a little and viable legislation takes shape.

While recognizing that Israel is the only secular democracy in the Middle East (Most people think Turkey's democratic experience has hit a lull) that offer all its citizens equal rights, the Presidents holding up dollars to the Palestinians for not being nice to Vice President Pence and not coming to the negotiating table along with its unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel (without getting any Israelis concessions on settlements) makes our position as an honest broker illusionary.

However, late breaking news this evening reveal that the President had actually ordered the firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller in June 2017. He took it back when his White House Counsel said he would quit if the President went through with his decision. This action would have probably started the Pence Presidency in 2017 had it gone through.

So today was a mixed day for the country. How many people pine for the days of George W. Bush? That number is growing every day.
