Deficits do matter and we should care but so does Social Justice

The next Democratic-led administration that comes to power (hopefully in 2021) will need to tackle problems that either Republican obstructionism and leadership have created. These include:

1) fixing and modernizing our crumbling infrastructure
2) reducing income inequality by creating a fairer tax code, raising the minimum wage and providing needed benefits like paid family leave and free college.
3) fixing what the Republicans have done to health care, education, science and innovation, the environment, and the courts.
4) putting our fiscal house in order.

Contrary to popular opinion, Republicans have not demonstrated since 1981 (with the possible exception of George H.W. Bush) that they know how to manage the nation's finances. Democrats have and it will fall on a Democratic Administration to pursue an ambitious social justice and modernization/innovative agenda that gradually reduces our nation's debt. If we do not, interest rates will go up and we will be more like a Banana Republic than what the current KKK endorsed Administration is making us into. Democrats have demonstrated they have done this before while paying for their programs and they will do so again.

The only difference is social justice should be emphasized first with a gradual reduction of the debt. The Clinton and to a lesser extent Obama Administrations taught us that emphasizing debt reduction over social justice while leaving the country better off,  is not the road to travel this time. There are serious issues like stagnating wages facing our people and if tax cuts for the rich and bloating the defense budget can take precedence over reducing the deficit, then providing needed social justice action for our citizens should not be a big stretch of the imagination for Democrats. The difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Democrats have proven they could do both. Republicans have mostly not in close to 40 years.
