President Biden Signs Executive Orders on Immigration and Releases a Video Celebrating his First Two Weeks in Office

President Biden signed three new Executive Orders today (February 2, 2021) related to immigration policy and released a video on Twitter commemorating his first two weeks in office.

After congratulating the recently confirmed new Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and giving a shout out to the immigration reform legislation the Biden/Harris Administration has introduced, the President explained that he was signing three Executive Orders designed to "strengthen the immigration system, build on the Executive Actions I took on day one to protect Dreamers and end the Muslim ban and better manage our borders."

Saying "he was not making new law but eliminating bad policy," the President said these three Immigration Executive Orders center on:

  • Getting rid of "the stain" and  "the moral and national shame of the previous administration that literally ...ripped children from the arms of their families" by creating a task force to come up with solutions to reunite the families.
  • Addressing the causes of migration to the southern border from North and Central America and "create an orderly process for asylum seekers."
  • "Full review of the previous administration's harmful and counterproductive immigration policies...across the board."  to "restore faith in our legal immigration system."

The Biden/Harris Administration also released a video on Twitter called: The First Two Weeks: Keeping Our Promises.

In the video, the Administration lists the acts that it has completed, mostly through Executive Order, to advance the Biden/Harris agenda for the American People. These acts include:

  • Rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement.
  • Restoring White House Press Briefings from Monday through Friday.
  • Taking steps to properly combat COVID 19 and distribute the Coronavirus vaccination.
  • Repealing the ban on transgenders serving in the military.
  • Banning discrimination of the LGBTQ Community in all federal locations.
  • Ending federal private prison contracts.
  • Improving relations with Native and Asian Americans.
  • Promoting Fair Housing.
  • Restoring alliances like with the partners at N.A.T.O.
  • Having the most diversified Cabinet and White House Staff in History.
  • Issuing a moratorium on evictions and a pause on collecting federal student loans.
  • Stopping the construction of the border wall.
  • Protecting DACA individuals.
  • Reversing the Muslim Ban.
  • Opening the ACA/Obamacare markets for three months.

To most objective observers, this is a great start for an activist good government Administration that has pledged to move the country forward for everyone.

There is still a lot more to do.
