Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego Supports the Biden/Harris Endorsed Bipartisan Innovation Act

In what could potentially be the second infrastructure and high paying jobs act passed in two years, the United States Congress has started a conference committee with members of both the House and Senate to blend each chamber's versions of the Bipartisan Innovation Act.

This legislation, if passed would help advance  domestic American innovation, research and development, and manufacturing capabilities.

This, considering the supply chain issues that have resulted from the Coronavirus Pandemic and the fact that, according to the Biden/Harris Administration, China has now eclipsed the United States in funding research and development, this legislation can help pave the way for an American Renaissance in technology, community development, and high paying green, blue, and white collar jobs.

Speaking in Ohio on May 6 while accompanied by Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Rob Portman, and leaders from Intel, GE, Siemens, Honeywell, Raytheon, and Lockhead Martin at a 3-D Manufacturing Plant, President Joe Biden said of the Bipartisan Innovation Act:

"Now, look, if we’re going to compete for the jobs of the future, we need to level the playing the field with our competitors. The bill does that.

The CEO of Intel told us that if this bill passes — what we’re talking about — and the guys behind me support it, and they’re actually moving it — this would increase the investment that Intel will make in Ohio, outside of Columbus, from $20 billion to $100 billion.

And we Irish say: That’s no malarkey, that’s a fact. One hundred billion dollars. Imagine what that’s going to do to –for Ohio, let alone Columbus. Not a joke. Think about it. It’d be staggering. And it will nail down, for generations, the leadership of this state once again, like it used to be 30, 40, 50, 60 years ago.

And it’s not just Intel. Foreign companies, like Samsung and TSMC, are ready to make state-of-the-art chips — those computer chips — ready to make them in Arizona and Texas. They already have the fa- — if this passes.

And this is a bipartisan bill. Senators Brown and Portman have been working hard to get it done.

So, every Republican and Democratic member of Congress — most of us agree on this. Pass the damn bill and send it to me.

If we do, it’s going to help bring down prices, bring home jobs, and power America’s manufacturing comeback."

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, whose city is fast becoming a technological hub for many of the industries that would benefit from the passage of the Bipartisan Innovation Act, issued a statement echoing many of President Biden's themes.

She wrote:

“We’re strengthening our future in Phoenix, and the bipartisan Innovation Act will deliver more opportunities for thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity through focused investments in innovation and manufacturing. Semiconductors, electric vehicles, robotics, software and green energy providers will create incredible careers for our residents, supporting families throughout greater Phoenix, and delivering a promising future for our city.”

Both President Biden and Mayor Gallego are correct.

If passed, a new American Century, forged with new technologies and opportunities to lift people and move the nation and the world forward, is possible.

Using the President's words, "pass the damn bill" and send it to him so this new Renaissance can start.
