In his writings, Karl Marx wrote that religion was "the opium of the people." To some of Donald Trump's less enlightened base, the opium is a wall on our southern border (but not our northern where the people are white), restrictions on legal immigration, do not issue condemnations all the time non white people or their houses of worship are targeted, and going after colleges for discriminating against whites. While Progressives would do well to steer a strong border security and anti illegal immigration posture, it is reactionary and foolhardy to promote ideas and policies that shrink us and pull us apart. While this may work for some of the President's most fervent supporters who feel immigration and affirmative action have taken away their livelihoods (as opposed to automation and the need for clean energy), it is a short term strategy that will only hurt us over the long haul. It should not be encouraged.
