Former President Clinton is both right and wrong

During a series of interviews the last several days to promote a book he wrote with James Patterson, former President Clinton made several points. One of them is very true while the other assertion may require additional reflection.

In one interview, Mr. Clinton said that if Donald Trump was a Democrat, the Republican Congress would have already started the impeachment hearings. Most students of public policy would not dispute that.

However, former President Clinton could have handled his interview with Craig Melvin better with an acknowledgment of the Me Too Movement and its positive work with exposing bad acts from women and men that sexually prey on the innocent? You bet.
However, please remember that the affair with Monica Lewinsky was consensual (she still concedes that point) and the President did pay several prices for cheating on his wife: Impeachment, the loss of his law license, and $16 million in debt.
Conceding the President's immoral behavior and betrayal of his wife, the Lewinsky affair does not equate with the more recent exposures of President Trump, Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose, and Bill Cosby.
That assessment could change if the accusations of Katherine Wiley and Juanita Broderick towards the former President, currently debated, turned out to be totally true.
That said, at this time, former President Clinton would do himself, and his legacy a favor, by giving an interview to any willing journalist (probably in the thousands) and praise the mission and goals of the Me Too Movement.
