The Scorecard on the Biden/Harris Cabinet and White House Staff Picks So Far

There has been recent concern among some Democratic/Progressive Leaning Groups on how diverse the Biden/Harris Administration will be.

The President-Elect has pledged to have the most diverse Administration in History.

How is the Biden/Harris Transition Team doing so far?

White Women: 12

Black Women: 7

Latino Women: 3

Asian Women: 4

White Men: 8

Black Men: 2

Latino Men: 3

Asian Men: 0

Of the 39 selections so far, men are in the minority with 26 picks going to women.

White Men, the demographic that mostly filled the Trump Administration slots, make up only 21 percent of the Biden/Harris Team's selections.

The number of black women almost match those of white men.

To say that the Biden/Harris Team is not being diverse enough, so far appears, by the current numbers, to be absurd.

The President-Elect and Vice President-Elect have promised to continue that diversity push. There is no reason, based on the current results, to doubt that.

Progressives do not see as Many Die Hard Progressives in the Mix

Some progressive groups appear dismayed that there are not many diehard progressives among the current picks, especially among the cabinet-level selections. They also worry that some of those under consideration (like Michele Flournoy who is being considered to be the first woman Secretary of Defense) have too many ties to lobbying interests.

There is a reason for that.

Even if Democrats win both Senate seats in Georgia's runoff elections on January 5, 2021, it will be a 50 to 50 split. Confirming diehard Progressives would probably be difficult.

As to those people who are being considered for positions that have ties to lobbying interests, it is very unfortunate but the number of qualified candidates, including progressive ones,  who do not have ties to outside groups are extremely few.

The nominees Biden and Harris have put forward, especially compared to Trump's first and subsequent picks, appear to be high caliber, left of center, pragmatic, grounded in reality, put the people first, and qualified to help govern the country and move it forward.

Those should be the criteria for selecting a team to govern the country.

President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Harris seem to be following those standards.
