President Biden Pokes Fun at Mitch McConnell and Outlines Benefits of both Infrastructure Plans

Before President Joe Biden delivered remarks in Crystal Lake, Illinois about the benefits of both the bipartisan and Democratic infrastructure plans, he poked fun at Senate Minority Leader-Obstructionist in Chief-Enemy of the People-"Do you think I care-" Moscow Mitch McConnell for praising the fact that Kentucky will get close to four billion dollars in American Relief Assistance despite the fact he and the other Republicans in Congress voted against the Legislation.

Yesterday, Kentucky's Senior Senator told a group of fellow Kentuckians that:

"So you're gonna get a lot more money. I didn't vote for it. But you're gonna get a lot more money. My advice to members of the legislatures and other public officials is spend it wisely, because hopefully this windfall doesn't come around again."

Honestly, what an ass. It is amazing how this person was able to get elected multiple times to the United States Senate.

The Obstructionist in Chief also said that he would fight the Democratic infrastructure bill, saying:

"This is not going to be done on a bipartisan basis. This is going to be a hell of a fight over what this country ought to look like in the future and it's going to unfold here in the next few weeks. I don't think we've had a bigger difference of opinion between the two parties."

The President, responding to a reporters question about what McConnell said about a fight,  wasted no time taunting the person he has called a friend, saying before his address on the infrastructure bills being drafted in the Senate:

"Mitch McConnell loves our programs. Have you seen what Mitch McConnell said? He told me he wasn't going to get a single vote in order to allow me to get, with the help of everybody here, that $1.9 trillion ... program for economic growth. Look it up, man. He's bragging about it in Kentucky. It's a great thing for Kentucky, it's getting $4 billion to help poor -- it's amazing."

The Benefits of the Bipartisan and Democratic Infrastructure Plans

During his address in Crystal Lake, Illinois, the President emphasized the benefits of the two infrastructure plans in a competitive purple district.

Those included:

  • Modernizing and repairing roads, bridges, airports, and railways.
  • Millions of good-paying jobs.
  • Replacing every lead pipe and service line in the country including the nation's schools and daycare centers.
  • Connecting everyone to reliable high-speed broadband.
  • Modernizing the electric grid to make it more resilient to extreme weather conditions.
  • Providing access to affordable/free community college, pre-school, and childcare.
  • Increasing the amount of maximum Pell Grant awards.
  • Expanding dual credit and apprenticeship programs.
  • Train and incentivize teachers with higher salaries.
  • Further increasing the child tax credit which will reduce child poverty.
  • Providing more opportunities for senior citizens and the disabled to receive home care.
  • Expanding health care and affordable housing.
  • Bringing the United States back to number one in research and development.
  • Invest in historic Black Colleges and Universities.
  • Combat climate change by prioritizing clean and sustainable energy programs like additional electric buses, electric charging stations,  tax credits for businesses and individuals/families to purchase clean energy products and technologies, conservation, and energy efficiency.

The President closed his address by explaining how the infrastructure plans would be paid for. These included:

  • Going after companies and tax cheats that have not paid any federal taxes.
  • Closing capital tax gains loopholes.
  • Raising taxes on corporations and on individuals (to rates seen during the George W. Bush Administration.)

Mr. Biden closed by saying:

"Imagine if we present the world and the nation with a better-educated workforce. It helps everybody. The point is, we pay for our entire plan and make the tax system fair for all Americans. It’s about time. There’s a lot of work ahead of us to finish the job but we’re going to get it done. We’re going to reimagine what our economy and our future could be and show the world, just as importantly, we’ll show ourselves that democracy can deliver for the people of Illinois and the people of America and the world can lead again."

Democrats and Republicans have a lot to do in drafting legislation to ensure both plans pass the Congress. The House is already passing aspects of both plans in smaller measures like Invest in America.

Mitch McConnell should listen to his own constituents. According to a press release by Hannah Goss of the Arizona Democratic Party, 60 percent of Republicans support the bipartisan infrastructure plan.

It is probably a safe bet that most would support the Democratic plan once they know what is in it. That was the case with Obamacare in 2009 and 2010 when Republicans said they supported the features of the legislation when it was called the Affordable Care Act.

It is time to reconcile all plans in the "sausage-making of legislation"  and pass something that will lift up all Americans and move the country forward.
