Books of the Week

With the terrorist events that occurred in both Charlottesville and Barcelona this last week, it would be instructive for readers to examine works that explore what drives these fringe religious and political groups to commit the atrocities they do as these activities are taking a heavy toll in areas like Africa (Somalia, Sudan, Libya) and the Middle East (Syria, Yemen, Iraq) where nations, designed in part by imperial, idealistic, and realpolitik ambitions following World Wars One and Two are becoming failed states. These fringe groups are also taking a heavy toll in this country where extremists increasingly push the envelope to see how far they can go in spreading their views. People need to be informed because knowledge is among the best weapons to fight the propaganda machines of these groups. These works are as follows.

Robert Kaplan  The Coming Anarchy

Walter LaQueur   Voices of Terror Manifestos, Writings and Manuals of Al Qaeda, Hamas, and other Terrorists from around the World and Throughout the Ages

Martin Miller The Foundations of Modern Terrorism: State, Society and the Dynamics of Political Violence

Randall Law: Terrorism A History

David Bennett  The Party of Fear: The American Far Right from Nativism to the Militia Movement

Anglea Nagle: Kill all Normies
