There were some interesting editorials in today's New York Times for Progressives and Democrats to consider.
In the first one, Steven Rattner postulates that Bernie Sanders "Medicare for All" is fools gold for progressives because of the high costs it would take to enact. Rattner proposes more of a buildup on the Affordable Care Act and more attention to infrastructure and better higher paying jobs. While Mr. Rattner is a very thoughtful public policy servant who helped steer the auto bailout, he may be wrong that Medicare for All is fools gold if it is paid for by an increase in the payroll tax by those who elect to buy into it. While he is right that stabilizing and building on the current system, Single Payer may also become more appealing if the Congress can not get together and stabilize the markets and renew C.H.I.P.
In the second editorial, Consumer Advocate Ralph Nader rightfully contends that all of Donald Trumps deregulatory policies actually hurt those people in the Rust Belt that supported the President. While this is nothing new to people in the know, Nader's idea of a consumer advocacy program that could appeal to those people warrants consideration as Progressives and Democrats put together an all encompassing program to appeal to all people in all regions.
