Gavin Newsom's Message Is Just the Sort of Ad all Democratic Candidates Should Emulate

California Governor Gavin Newsom put out a July 4 ad, in Florida on Fox News, attacking the policies of their Governor Ron DeSantis, that should serve as a template all Democratic candidates emulate against their Republican opponents in 2022 and 2024.

In the ad, Newsom, celebrating the Fourth of July, says:

"Let's talk about what's going on America...Freedom is under attack in your state. Republican leaders. They're banning books. Making it harder to vote. Restricting speech in classrooms. Criminalizing women and doctors. I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight or to join us in California where we still believe in freedom. Freedom of Speech. Freedom to Choose. Freedom from Hate and the Freedom to Love. Don't let them take your freedom."

Newsom, who probably does have Presidential ambitions of his own, strikes the perfect message, projecting a positive and relatively youthful/vigorous tone, of what the 2022 and 2024 elections are about: Freedom.

The California Governor successfully points out that Republicans are against it and Democrats are the ones that will embrace and protect it.

Commenting on the Newsom ad,  commentator and Political Branding Strategist for Matters of State Strategies Rachel Bitecofer offered:

"The vacuum felt most profoundly right now isn't ideological, its temperamental. When under siege, people look for signs of strength, a port in the storm. Very shrewd of Newsom's team to recognize and try to capitalize on this vacuum, and if it builds a little national name ID, bonus."

Matt Grodsky, the Vice President for Matters of State Strategies, relayed:

"This is the kind of direct, concise, strong message that Democrats will need to adopt and customize for their local races especially for members of the persuadable population who are just tuning in. This ad is also a telling 2024 glimpse."
