Saying "it's a team that will keep our country safe and secure," President-Elect Joe Biden presented nominees for many of the foreign policy and national security positions that will work in the new Biden/Harris Administration.
Stating that "it's a team that reflects the fact that says America is back, ready to lead the world, not retreat from it, once again, sit at the head of the table. Ready to confront our adversaries and not reject our allies. Ready to stand up for our values," Mr. Biden further said that "this team standing behind me. They embody my core beliefs that America is strongest when it works with its Allies."
As reported yesterday, these nominees are:
- Antony Blinklen for Secretary of State.
- Alejandro Mayorkas for Secretary of Homeland Security.
- Avril Haines for Director of National Intelligence.
- Linda Thomas-Greenfield for United Nations Ambassador.
- Jake Sullivan for National Security Advisor.
- Former Senator and Secretary of State John Kerry for Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
Blinken, Mayorkas, Haines, and Thomas will require Senate Confirmation for their nominations.
Sullivan and Kerry, as members of the White House Staff, do not.
If confirmed, Mr. Mayorkas would be the first Latino and immigrant to serve as the head of Homeland Security.
Ms. Haines would be the first woman to serve as the Director of National Intelligence.
Vice President-Elect Harris closed the event by stating:
"I have always believed in the nobility of public service and these Americans (the nominees) embody it. Their lives and careers are a testament to the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to civic responsibility that have strengthened our Democracy and kept America's promise alive for more than 200 years."
