Very interesting editorial from New York Times columnist Ross Douthat on what Democrats need to do appeal to voters that would be willing to support them if they moderated their messages on issues like immigration (maintaining policies Barrack Obama had where he set a record for deportations of illegal immigrants who were criminals) and abortion (recognizing that it should not be a cavalier form of birth control). While there is merit to these arguments as most of the people in our country hold pragmatic views on these issues, the number one goal of Democrats and Progressives is to convince these voters, some of whom voted for President Obama twice, that their economic and social programs will maintain and improve their lives.
