Voting Suppressing Republicans in Georgia Make it a Crime to be a Good Samaritan on Election Day

Does everyone remember this scene from the 1959 classic Ben Hur?

This is the scene where the Romans forbade Ben Hur and the other prisoners from getting water before the Roman Soldiers. Later when Nazerines give water to the prisoners, a Roman Centurion stops Ben Hur from getting water. Jesus Christ ignores the order and gives the dehydrated Charlton Heston (as Ben Hur) water. The Centurion tries to stop Christ but is awed by his aura and innate goodness and backs off.

In the climax of the movie, Ben Hur returns the favor and gives water to Christ as he marches to his crucifixion.

Fast forward to 2021 and voters in Georgia have taken the place of Ben Hur and the prisoners in that movie and Georgia's Republican suppressing legislators have assumed the roles of the repressive Romans.

How did this happen?

Because Republican State Legislators in Georgia and their Republican Governor (the vacuous Brian Kemp) passed and signed into law several voting suppression measures based on the election denialism and big lies following the 2020 Presidential Elections including restrictions on early voting and the supply of drop boxes.

They also made it a crime for people to give food and water to people waiting in long lines to vote.

What barbarity is this?

Are Republicans in Georgia so worried that they can not win power fairly that they have to make it a crime to be a good samaritan?

This is such an affront to Judeo-Christian-Islamic values that the courts should immediately throw out this provision and the other clauses that inhibit a person's constitutional right to vote.

Even if by some nightmare, these laws are allowed to remain in effect, rest assured there will be many people emulating Christ on voting lines in 2022 and beyond giving voters on long lines food and water, daring election officials to act like repressive Romans.

It would not be surprising if those election day officials act like the Roman Centurion did in that scene in Ben Hur and back off.

It is the Judeo-Christian-Islamic thing to do.
