Progressive Idea of the Week: Getting back to the Moon and Beyond
The United States Congress just passed a bill giving N.A.S.A. mandates to return to the Moon in the 2020's and land people on Mars by 2033.
My question is, and this is a repeat of an earlier post with regards to India and China entering space exploration, why so long? With less technology, we landed people on the Moon in shorter time spans. Why does not our new President channel our national pride by reinvigorating the space program? Think of the high-tech jobs in private and public industries this may create. Think of the people that may be inspired to go into STEM fields of which there is a high demand. Remember what the last space program to the Moon (coupled with shows like Star Trek) did for our country and children who today, as adults, run N.A.S.A. and other science-based organizations. Along with programs in alternative energy and oceanography, this could truly give our country a renewed sense of mission, accomplishment, and pride.
