Dusting off the 25th Amendment

The 25th Amendment to our Constitution provides a mechanism to relieve the President of his or her duties if there are signs of physical or mental incapacitation. The President's recent tweets, including the one this morning where he whines about being investigated by the Deputy Attorney General who advised him to fire the F.B.I. director (although he publicly said in an interview with an NBC television journalist that he was going to fire him anyway because of the Russia Investigation) should give people pause if he has the mental temperament for the position he holds. If anything, these tweets and other off the cuff comments gives more potentially self-incriminating material for the special counsel to examine. Officials in the White House may want to consider dusting off their copies of the Constitution and read the 25th Amendment. It may come handy soon.
