The Incoming Biden/Harris Administration has announced more historic nominations, adding to already the most diverse Executive Branch in history.
Among the new selections is Dr. Rachel Levine, the Biden/Harris Nominee for Assistant Secretary for Health at the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Levine, currently the Secretary of Health for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, would be the first approved openly transgender person working in the federal government if confirmed by the Senate.

Commenting on the nomination, President-Elect Biden wrote:
“Dr. Rachel Levine will bring the steady leadership and essential expertise we need to get people through this pandemic — no matter their zip code, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability — and meet the public health needs of our country in this critical moment and beyond. She is a historic and deeply qualified choice to help lead our administration’s health efforts.”
Vice President-Elect Harris stated:
“Dr. Rachel Levine is a remarkable public servant with the knowledge and experience to help us contain this pandemic, and protect and improve the health and well-being of the American people. President-elect Biden and I look forward to working with her to meet the unprecedented challenges facing Americans and rebuild our country in a way that lifts everyone up.”
The Biden/Harris team also announced several other deputy secretary and vital positions. These include:
- Elizabeth Klein for Deputy Secretary of the Interior.
- Dr. Jewel Bronaugh for Deputy Secretary of Agriculture.
- Andrea Palm, Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services.
- Polly Trottenberg, Deputy Secretary of Transportation.
- Cindy Marten, Deputy Secretary of Education.
- Rohit Chopra, Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
- Gary Gensler, Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On January 16, 2021, the Biden/Harris team announced several deputy slots for the Department of State including former ambassador Wendy Sherman for Deputy Secretary of State.

Confirmation hearings have finally begun in the United States Senate for the Biden/Harris Nominees for State, Treasury, Defense, the Director of National Intelligence, and Homeland Security.
Hopefully, the new Democratic-controlled Senate (as of tomorrow) will fast track the confirmation process of these nominees after the outgoing Republican majority dragged their feet.
