Last night, terror again visited the British Isles for the third time in ten weeks. Thoughts should be steered towards sympathy for the victims, support for the British authorities fighting this horror, and condemnation of the movement that motivated the three attackers. This is not a time to score political points by asking the courts to impose a travel ban or question the comments of the Mayor of London whose words would be mirrored by any local leader around the planet.
While the attacks on London are truly tragic, we need to be mindful that far tragic attacks have taken place in Egypt, Iraq, and Afghanistan where hundreds of innocent people (mostly Moslem) have been killed. We in the west have not paid as much attention to these events and we need to because the Middle East is very much in a quasi civil war between its two main groups: Sunni and Shi'ite. Proxy Wars are already occurring in Yemen and Syria. Terrorist attacks by both groups are being launched across North Africa and the Middle East.
Numerically, these attacks around the world were launched by mostly radical Sunni individuals or groups who have been spoon fed radical Islamic dogma that has been largely financed by Saudi Arabia. When the President visited Saudi Arabia a couple of weeks ago, he may have missed an opportunity by not calling out his hosts (at least publicly) for their role in subsidizing these groups. People need to realize that Extremist Terror from this part of the world has many flavors and require different long term solutions after achieving the short term one of putting a stop to the attacks.
