If Donald Trump can mail in his ballot, so should the People in Arizona and across the Country he Serves.

Donald Trump thinks mailing in ballots for voters is bad unless you are (wait for it) Donald Trump.

Last week, the Stable Genius said at a Coronavirus briefing that massive cheating and fraud results when people are allowed to mail-in ballots.

When a White House Journalist in the Press Pool followed up on Tuesday (April 7, 2020) that the Liar in Chief mailed in his ballot for last months Florida Primary, Mr. Trump, without even a blush, dismissed the question, saying it was different for him because he voted out of state.

On Wednesday morning, the 2016 Popular Vote Loser conveyed, via Twitter, that Republicans should fight any Democratic attempt to expand mail-in balloting because it creates “tremendous potential for voter fraud, and for whatever reason, doesn’t work out well for Republicans.”

Two points to be made from this tweet and the Mad King’s comments:

• Evidence has pointed out time and time again that voter fraud rarely happens.
• Trump knows that higher voter turnout hurts him and his Republican supporters. Political Prince of Darkness-Enemy of the People Mitch McConnell knows it too.

Republicans in Wisconsin willingly risked people’s lives to ensure lower voter turnout to increase the odds of a State Supreme Court candidate of winning. If anyone dies in Wisconsin from the Coronavirus because they contracted it while being made to stand in line at voting locations for hours, those Republican legislators and conservative judges should face murder charges. 

In Arizona, the Republican majority in the State Legislature suspended their session ignoring requests from Secretary of State Katie Hobbs and the Arizona Association of Counties to adopt legislation that would make mail-in ballots universal for this year's elections.

One of the right-wing legislators, Legislative District Twenty Representative Shawna Bolick wrote a guest opinion piece making the bogus contention that mail-in balloting is a complicated process (not for anyone with an IQ in the high Forest Gump level double digits) that requires special paper (so,) signature verification (duh, that is how you ensure no fraud) and staffing to make sure the system runs smoothly.

What was her point in penning her op-ed?

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes seemed to wonder as well. In a virtual town hall with Democratic Congressional District Eight Candidate Anita Malik, Recorder Fontes pointed out (on Twitter as well) that:

“How did you (Bolick) get elected when 80 percent (of the Maricopa County) ballots was returned by mail.”

Fontes also pointed out that there were no major issues with the return of mail-in ballots in recent mail only municipal elections in Tempe and Chandler, saying  “we’ve been doing mail-in ballot for years. This is what the voters want. We are lucky with the early vote list where you do not need an excuse. 74 percent are on the early vote list and 80 to 90 percent turned in their ballots by mail.”

To Bolick, he said again: “What is the real fact-based concern that you have because you were elected by that system where you have a choice of PEVL (Permanent Early Voting List) or voting in person.”

Readers would get more accurate and expert insights into the merits of all mail-in ballots for 2020 by reading the Op-Ed piece submitted to AZ Central by Pinal County Recorder Virginia Ross and Cochise County Elections Director Lisa M. Marra.

After skillfully refuting Bolicks fringe talking points, they rightfully contend that going to all mail-in ballots in 2020 would be the safe route considering any lingering waves of the Coronavirus that maybe (hopefully not in November)festering. They also said that in-person voting would still be an option for those who chose it.

Adrian Fontes, in the virtual town hall (see the link to the article with the full video below) with Anita Malik echoed Ross and Mara, stating:

“We can essentially flip a switch, unlike states like New York and Wisconsin, and make everybody keep the ultimate social distance on election day ….where they do not have to choose between the fundamental right of voting and possible death.”

Voting Rights activists of both parties should encourage all Arizonans to request an early voting ballot for this years’ elections.

Activists should be doing that in the other states that have no excuse or excuse mail-in balloting options. The excuse would be their worrying about their personal health.

Arizonans should be able to protect themselves and mail in their ballots like Donald Trump can

Fringe groups like reactionary state and national legislators (and President)  should be made to face the voters and explain why they should have to potentially risk their lives standing on line to vote when Donald Trump, and them in some cases, could mail in their ballots from the safety of the White House or their capitol offices.

If Donald Trump can mail in his ballot, so should the people in Arizona and across the country he serves.
