The Presidents Commission on Voter Fraud is a fraud whose sole purpose appears to be a quasi Orewllian-Toltaliatarian scheme to intimidate legal voters who do not want their private information shared with any level of government. The privacy of the vote should be absolute in all democracies. Previous commissions in the Bush and Obama Administrations found little examples of fraud in elections going back to 2000. The appointment of the Kansas Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, whose previous attempts at voter suppression have been mostly overturned by state courts, is a message that the President seems to feel that only white people (the approved ones anyway) should be the only ones whose right to vote should not be challenged. Unfortunately, the short term effect of this commission is people withdrawing from the voter rolls. Progressive activists need to work hard to reassure these people and others to reregister or not withdraw. Otherwise, this travesty of a commission could make it easier for radical right wingers to win close elections which is something the vast majority of the country does not want.
