No one is saying staffers who are public servant staffers should not get a good salary. Public service does not mean serving in poverty. That said, teachers in Arizona who have fought and clawed for morsels of salary increases since the Great Recession were rightfully annoyed that Governor Doug Ducey gave his staff 20 percent raises. With the state having a deficit because state tax cuts have not had the intended trickle-down growth effect (Duh-See Kansas and the Bush II Administration), giving these staffers raises may have been ill-advised. That said, the Governor has no room to object when Arizona Teachers come next winter and spring to argue for a 20 percent raise they rightfully deserve. To do so would be the height of hypocrisy for the Governor and his allies in the State Legislature.
