Jeff Flake, the Junior Senator from Arizona, did a couple of good things last night.
First, he was respectful to quite frankly a disrespectful crowd at Mesa Convention Center last night at a town hall meeting. He did not behave like Markwayne Mullin, a Representative from Oklahoma who dared say at a town hall that the taxpayers did not pay his salary. Flake was very cordial. It is okay for citizens to come to town halls and express concerns or disagreements with our Congressional Representatives but it is not right to shout slogans. It makes good television. It may actually make politicians think twice about their positions but if a politician is not being a jerk, he should not be treated like one even if there is disagreement on the issues.
The second good thing Senator Flake did last night is he stayed longer than he was supposed to in order to answer his constituents questions. Again, whatever he believes on the issues, that is the mark of a committed public servant who was doing his job.
