In the Kansas Fourth District in last November's elections, Mike Pompeo (the now current director of the Central Intelligence Agency) beat his Democratic Opponent by close to 30 points. There has not been a Democratic representative in that district since 1994. Yesterday Jack Thompson came within a little more than seven points of beating Ron Estes in a special election. In most elections that would be a decisive victory for Mr. Estes but this was a 22 point turnaround in six months. The lesson here is that the DNC should have been quicker off the bench and helped Mr. Thompson out. The Republicans, seeing a possible upset, rushed money and the A-Team to Kansas, both physically like Senator Ted Cruz and through the airwaves with ads by the President and Vice President. The DNC only put money up for Monday night Robocalls.
There are two more special elections in the coming months in Georgia and Montana. The DNC needs to do better.
