An article by Jonathan Chait in the New York Magazine (link below) proposes that Republicans are going to wish that Hillary Clinton won the Presidency by the time the Trump Administration is over. He may be right considering how the Republicans, united in power for the first time since 2006, has veered so far to the right is the gift that keeps on giving in that they can not serve the people. The part of Lincoln has come up with health care reform that provides no health care, initiated a travel ban that is likely unconstitutional, sponsored anti-environmental measures that may hinder our long-term capacity to breath, possibly colluded with a foreign government to steer the election to their favor, and done away with the Senate tradition of filibustering just to get their choice on the Supreme Court after stonewalling President Obama's pick for that same seat. Democrats and Progressives should be able to build on this carcass of a dying Republican Party and forge a new progressive majority because the Party of Lincoln no longer serves the needs of the people. It serves an oligarchical base whose numbers can not sustain them for the long term. Democrats and Progressives can beat this in contests across the country from the election for the local dog catcher to the highest office in the land. If not, we have no one but ourselves to blame for not connecting with the people, the great majority who do not support the current Republican Agenda.
