In a blistering attack on Donald Trump's comments at a rally in Ohio on September 22, 2020, when he said that while the COVID 19 affects the elderly, especially those with health conditions, younger people, especially children, are not as affected and schools should open up.
His exact words, (please link below) which could have been out of 1970's Sci-Fi Classics like Logans Run and Soylent Green, were:
"Now we know that it affects elderly people, elderly people with heart problems and if they have other problems. That's what (not who) it really affects. You know, in some states, thousands of people, below the age of 18, nobody, like they have a strong immune system. Take your hat off to the young, because they have a hell of an immune system. But it affects virtually nobody. It's an amazing thing. By the way, open your schools."
This is the same Donald Trump, who as CNN's Jim Acosta reminded Kayleigh McEnany at the White House Briefing Room on the day the country officially crossed the 200,000 fatality threshold, that told Bob Woodward during one of his 19 interviews with him for the book Rage, that COVID 19 affects the young as well as the old. In Joe Biden's response to Mr. Trump, the 2020 Democratic Presidential Nominee scolded the President of Betrayal and Liar in Chief for saying the elderly:
"Are not nobodies. They're our parents. Our grandparents. The people who raised us. Who guided us. People opened their hearts to us. People sacrificed everything for us and for this nation and all too often in this pandemic, the pain of losing them has been made worse because we haven't been able to be with them as they passed.
Biden then blasted Trump again for being "wrong on the facts," pointing out:
- "The Virus affects everyone young and old."
- "Essential workers like law enforcement officers, teachers, firefighters, nurses who put themselves in the line for us."
- "The Virus spares no one."
The former Vice President also said:
"Maybe Donald Trump sees these people as nobodies. I don't. We lost 200,000 moms and dads, sons and daughters, friends and coworkers and not a single one of them is a nobody."
"200,000 people we used to hug and hold. 200,000 people had hopes and dreams. 200,000 people we loved...This virus has left a huge hole in the heart of this country and President Trump wants to write off those we lost as nobodies."
"This President is trying to erase the reality we're living in today because he thinks it helps him politically. We can't let this happen. We can't become numb to the toll that's taken on us, our country, and our families. It's not who we are as Americans."
"We can and we will get control of this virus but we need a President who will honestly face the problem and lead. This President has proven he can do neither. He can neither face the problem nor lead. I will."
